Dennis Collins Obituary

Dennis “Denny” Ray Collins, 72, of Strong City, passed away January 13, 2024. Dennis was born on March 26, 1951, to Vernie and Hazel (Ramsey) Collins at Stubenhofer Maternity Home in Strong City. He attended Strong City Grade School and graduated from Strong City High School in 1970. He served two years in the United States Army from June 1971 to June 1973.

Dennis and Shirley Talkington were married March 6, 1975, in which they shared 48 years of marriage. To this union they had three children, Diana, Jessica and John.

Dennis worked at Heckondorn Manufacturing and later for the City of Strong City which he retired from in 2009. Denny spent his time completing puzzles, woodworking and driving the roads of Chase County.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; infant brother and infant sister.

He is survived by: wife, Shirley of the home; children, Diana (Trenton) Frimmel, Jessica (Oscar) Trevino, John Collins; grandchildren, Jasmyn, Oscar and Osias Trevino, Deagan, Olivia and Knox Collins; sisters, Verna Buttel, Hazel Snyder, Wanda Hager; and brother, Paul Collins.

Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Prairie Grove Cemetery, with Pastor Dave Thomas officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, Cottonwood Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chase County All Veteran, in care of Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home PO Box 220 Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
